VIOLA AND PIANO Benjamin, Arthur (1893-1960) Jamaican Rumba A5 Jamaican Rumba is a very fun piece with a strong Caribbean flavor. Arranged for viola by the legendary William Primrose, this piece is rather virtuosic, requiring advanced technical skills in both left and right hands. A wonderful encore piece for the budding concert violist. The first movement contains beautiful, swaying melodies, and the second movement is passionately energ etic and joyful. Though a c o n t e m p o ra ry piece, it is ve ry approachable in terms of meter, melodic structure, and rhythm. Great for an advancing violist. 18.25 16.50 Carter, Elliot (1908- ) 21.00 Elegy (1943) Elliott Carter's Elegy for solo viola is an interesting piece written bet ween the composer's neoclassical and atonal compositional periods. The result is a lyrical melody that is unmistakably modern in its sound, not being bound by any particular key for more than a few beats. Soothing in its own contempora ry way, this is a good piece for an advanced violist wanting to explore a ve ry modern style.
